Is It Time to See Santa Yet?

November 25th, 2008 · No Comments

Yesterday, Mr. Right and I took the children to see Santa at Phipps Plaza, which is this ritzy, expensive mall in the trendy Buckhead area of Atlanta. The Santa at Phipps is THE Santa in Atlanta. You have to make an appointment to see him in October usually at midnight. Why don’t they start the appointment system at 9am? Don’t they know parents desperately need their sleep and do not want to be messing with an online appointment calendar at midnight? Still, this is a small sacrifice to make to see this Santa.

My family has been going to Phipps Plaza to see Santa since my youngest brother was 2 or 3. It is a tradition for our family. We book the appointment around my 3 siblings’ schedules, which includes my sister, her husband, and their 2 children, and around my parents’ schedules. Yesterday one of my brothers could not be there but the rest of us were there.

The children knew from the time they woke up that we were going to see Santa at some point during the day. From the moment they finished breakfast they began asking, “Is it time to see Santa yet?” We kept replying that we would see him around dinner time.

At about 11:00, BusyBoy and GigglyGirl asked again, “Is it time to see Santa yet?” Again, we replied that it would be around dinnertime when we would see him. So, they laid down on the sofa where they were watching tv and one said, “I’m hungry.” The other one said, “I’m tired.” Then they asked if it was dinnertime since they were hungry and tired.
