Thankful for My Children

November 12th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Mr. Right and I tried for years to get pregnant before we actually were able to conceive and have children.  I am so thankful that we have been blessed with our precious children.  They are 5 years old and in kindergarten.  This past year has been stressful for our family with the closing of Mr. Right’s business and transitioning to a new time in our lives.  They have been such troopers.

This summer they had to ride in the car while I was going door to door campaigning for a client.  They have had to sit quietly while Mr. Right or I have been in meetings.  They have had to ride around in the on crazy errands.  They have done all of this with so much patience – espeically for 5 year olds.

They love each other and love us.  BusyBoy comes up to me about 20 times a day and says, “Mommy, I love you” and then gives me a kiss and a hug.  He is so sweet.

GigglyGirl can carry on a conversation with me.  She enjoys talking about her baby dolls, toys, and books but she also likes to talk about what is happening in my life. She asks me questions and wants to know so many details.

Lately, they have started sleeping in the same bed together at night.  As long as they go to bed, stay in bed, and are quiet we allow them to sleep together.  They can get so frustrated at each other during the day.  Then at night they just want to cuddle up to go to sleep.  It is adorable.

They have had to learn that sometimes one of them gets to do something that the other one will not be able to do.  Sometimes, GigglyGirl is invited to a girls only birthday party or vica versa.  GigglyGirl takes ballet and BusyBoy will be starting basketball soon.  The one who does not get to do the special thing waits patiently while their twin is enjoying their activity.

Tonight, as I read their stories to them, they cuddled up close and put their cheeks on my cheek.  As I enjoyed feeling their soft skin, I thought about just how blessed we are.  It took years for us to become parents but it was worth every second of the wait to be blessed with our children.

    Hi Jen,

I really enjoy your blog! This post brought back such memories for me. I have three children–the older two are just out of college while my youngest is now 16! My own Mr. Right and I married and had our children when we were very young (20) so we are enjoying our time together now very much. Even still, I remember well times very similar to what you describe with such pleasure. How wise you are to appreciate them as they are happening. It makes life so sweet (and any unpleasantness seems to fade in comparison). Thanks so much for sharing with us…it’s very appreciated.
    Warmly,
    Tracey

your post brought back fond memories. i have four children (including twin girls). the twins will be 15 in december, but i remember fondly how they would always want to sleep in the same bed and cuddle. they still share a room and prefer to be near one another. one thing i loved was getting “sandwich kisses” – when the twins would kiss either side of my cheeks at the same time. :-)

It’s paints a sweet picture. I only have one little guy, but I hope he has a sibling to share his life with someday. I’m glad you are enjoying your life so much.
