Why Are at least 3 Obama Staffers Not Supporting Obama in the Last Days?

November 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Over the last few days I have read three posts online about paid Obama campaign staffers who are now so disgruntled with the campaign that they are not supporting Obama.   Here is what the three posts have in common:

  • All three are women
  • All three are Democrats
  • All three are disgusted with the Sen. Obama’s treatment of Sen. Hillary Clinton and Gov. Sarah Palin
  • All three are not voting for Sen. Obama

The most eloquent article and the most believable one is written by Obama speechwriter, Wendy Button.  She has been writing speeches for Democrats for many years.  She has written for Sens. Clinton, Edwards, and Biden.  From what I can tell she has been a lifelong Democrat. She is believable because she put her name on the article and does not write anonymously.  As a paid speechwriter, she should be eloquent.

Wendy Button experienced her final straw with the Democratic Party and the Obama campaign with the treatment of Joe the Plumber (irl:  Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher.)  She says,

“The party I believed in wouldn’t look down on working people under any circumstance. And Joe the Plumber is right. This is the absolutely worst time to raise taxes on anyone: the rich, the middle class, the poor, small businesses and corporations.”

She continues with the treatment of Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin,

“Not only has this party belittled working people in this campaign from Joe the Plumber to the bitter comments, it has also been part of tearing down two female candidates.”

She is eloquent in her defense of Sarah Palin’s intelligence and personality,

“Governor Palin and I don’t agree on a lot of things, mostly social issues. But I have grown to appreciate the Governor. I was one of those initial skeptics and would laugh at the pictures. Not anymore. When someone takes on a corrupt political machine and a sitting governor, that is not done by someone with a low I.Q. or a moral core made of tissue paper. When someone fights her way to get scholarships and work her way through college even in a jagged line, that shows determination and humility you can’t learn from reading Reinhold Niebuhr. When a mother brings her son with special needs onto the national stage with love, honesty, and pride, that gives hope to families like mine as my older brother lives with a mental disability. And when someone can sit on a stage during the Sarah Palin rap on Saturday Night Live, put her hands in the air and watch someone in a moose costume get shot-that’s a sign of both humor and humanity.”

The next 2 articles are somewhat less believable because they have both been posted anonymously online.  If I was beginning in my career and I was going out on a limb about my boss, I would post anonymously as well.  Still, in the interest of fairness I feel compelled to point out that these posts could truly be written by an Obama staffer or they could just be written by a McCain supporter who wants to make the Obama campaign look bad.  You read them and decide for yourself what you think.

The first is someone who posted as “Sarah P” on Hill Buzz, which is a website of Hillary Clinton supporters now voting for John McCain.  Sarah P, an Obama Staffer in the Marketing Department, felt the need to clear her conscious by telling the lengths the Obama campaign has gone to try to win this election.  Again this Obama staffer says Sarah Palin has been treated unfairly,

“Sarah Palin is a huge threat, and our campaign has feared her like you can’t imagine. If it seems unfair how she has been treated, well its because she has had a team working round the clock to make her look like a fool.”

Without going into details, this “Sarah P” Obama Staffer also says that the polls the Obama campaign has been able to successfully skew many polls.

There is another anonymous Obama staffer, this time from the Research Department, posted on RedState.com.  This blogger was originally a Hillary Clinton staffer.  You will notice a trend in the posts about Sarah Palin.  This one says,

“Don’t believe what the media is telling you about how horrible a choice she was.”

The RedState Blogger goes into details about how the polls have been skewed.  She says according to her research for the campaign Obama has no chance of winning North Carolina, Indiana, Missouri, Florida, New Hampshire, and Nevada.  She goes on:

“A more disorganized, but genuine effort has also been made to sow doubts among the unapologetically right wing sites such as redstate.com. Don’t you guys get it? This has been the Obama campaign’s sole strategy from the very beginning! The only way he wins is over a dispirited, disorganized, and demobilized opposition. This is how it has been for all of his campaigns. What surprises me is that everyone has fallen for it. You may point to the polls as proof of the inevitability of all of this. If so, you have fallen for the oldest trick in the book. How did we skew these polls, you might ask? It all starts with the media “buzz” which has been generated over the campaign. Many stories are generated on the powerful Obama ground game, and how many new voters were registered. None of this happens by coincidence. It is all part of the poll-skewing process. This makes pollsters change their mixes to reflect these new voters and tilt the mix more towards Democratic voters.”

Finally, the Hill Buzz blog mentioned above has an article about how they think Obama depressed the Hillary voters and is doing it again with McCain voters.  The post lists three specific ways the Obama campaign works the media to depress its opponent’s votes.  The article concludes by saying: “It’s all a head game, a fake out. All of this talk about Obama being ahead is just garbage the Obamedia shovels to make you give up and sit home so Obama can win.”

(BTW, I really never thought I would see the day when Hillary supporters were watching Sean Hannity, listening to Rush Limbaugh and quoting World Net Daily and Romney to get their point across.  Politics really does make strange bed fellows!)

So, read these articles.  Ask yourself if they ring true.  If so, ask yourself why Obama’s own campaign staffers are not supporting him?  Is this a man and party who really and truly has women’s best interests at heart?  Does he have the country’s best interest at heart?  Or, is it all about him winning no matter what?
