This weekend as I changed the sheets on the children’s beds, I really changed the sheets.
From the time they moved out of their cribs to twin beds, they have had generic flannel sheets with little frogs on them. The color scheme on the frog sheets is for children and not for boys or girls only.
I had 1 set of brand new pink sheets that I had never used for GigglyGirl’s bed and I had another set of blue sheets that I used to have on the twin beds before babies were born. I decided that they might enjoy a change of scenery in their bed room. So, I pulled out and washed the new pink sheets and the older blue sheets and then made the beds with these.
GigglyGirl loved her new sheets. She said her bed looked like a castle. She could not get enough of these sheets. This afternoon she went up to look at her sheets and bed because she “just loves them so much and they are beautiful.”

Right before bedtime, Mr. Right went in the room and found her looking at her bed with big, huge tears streaming down her face. He asked what was wrong. She said, “My sheets and bed are so pretty and beautiful. I’m so happy and I can’t stop crying.”
Mr. Right said she was definitely a girl because boys usually do not cry over beautiful things unless it is their own beautiful babies. Then he sent her to tell me what she was upset about.
She came downstairs crying hysterically. I thought she had gotten hurt or something awful had happened. She said, “I am so happy that I am crying, Mommy. I was looking at my bed and it is just so pretty [sob, sob] and beautiful [sob] with pink sheets. I cannot quit crying.” BAWL.
I hugged her and told her that I sometimes cry when I am happy too. Then after another minute of her crying, I tickled all the tears out of her and had her laughing her way back up to get in bed.

In the last couple of weeks, we have been teaching the twins the names of the states in the United States of America. They especially like knowing the states where their out-of-state uncles, cousin, and grandfather live. There was an electoral map on the news the other night and I paused on it. BusyBoy named a couple of the states.
In this map, the toss-up states were yellow. Of course, there were the red and blue states where polling leans significantly to Republican or Democrat. I told BusyBoy that we want the states that are yellow to be red on Election Day. He asked why. I said that would mean that Senator McCain would be our next President.
His response, “Oh pickles!!!! I wanted Sarah Palin to be our next President.”
