Boo! Get Spooked This Halloween (A Bit Like Secret Santa)

A Bit Like Secret Santa – Secretly deliver Halloween treats and a “Spook” to your neighbors and start a fun chain reaction that will end up all over town!

Have you ever been spooked by the Halloween Phantom? If not, why not become the Halloween Phantom in your neighborhood to get the ball rolling?

So, what is “getting spooked?” How does it work? Just who is the Halloween Phantom? The idea is pretty simple.  It is kind of like a hand delivered chain letter with candy attached.

To get the ghost rolling:

  • Download and print 3 copies of this get spooked file.
  • Tape one copy of the ghost on your front door or window to let people know that You’ve Been Spooked and to keep someone from spooking your house again. Or, if you prefer, don’t tape it up and wait to see if you get spooked back.
  • You create 2 bags of Halloween treat candy and attach the other 2 copies of the letter and ghost to the bags.
  • Secretly deliver the candy and the “You’ve Been Spooked” signs to two homes in your neighborhood.

It is a good idea to ring the doorbell and run like a ghost back to your car before the people you are spooking see you.  These people will then put the letter on their window and deliver candy to two other homes.  It is interesting to watch how many people in your neighborhood will have the ghost posted on their windows before Halloween.

Last year was the first year we were spooked by the Halloween Phantom.  The children had a good time creating the bags of treats that we delivered to our friends.  Then the rest of the time leading up to Halloween, they watched the front window of each house we drove past to see who else was spooked.

Start a new Halloween tradition or continue an old one and spook someone!

We do this every year, in my neighborhood. It’s a lot of fun and the kids get a real kick out of playing “secret spook agent.”

A really stupid idea! We are trying to teach our kids not to take strange candy and then some idiot comes up with this. We threw ours straight in the garbage!

Wow, does Scrooge come out at Halloween, too? This is NOT a) a chain letter because it doesn’t say anything bad will happen to you if you don’t participate, nor b) a stupidly dangerous idea because the candy is most likely to come from one of your neighbors. And if you’re that freaked out about accepting candy from strangers, then may I give you a little unsolicited advice and stop worrying about this horrible world that we live in and just start trying to enjoy it a little? I, for one, will be passing the Halloween Phantom along!

[...] It may be a variation of "You've been spooked!" In many neighborhoods, neighbors leave a bag of candy and a note with a picture of a ghost. You hang the poem up to let others know you've been spooked and then do that to another neighbor. (Get Spooked this Halloween by the Halloween Phantom | Jen's Genuine Life) [...]

We got a treat from the Phantom and it totally made our day! Our phantom also gave us some little toys and toothpaste, so it doesn’t just have to be candy.
