I Can Make Him Cry

April 14th, 2008 · 3 Comments

Yesterday as we were waiting the final 15 minutes before dinner was ready, BusyBoy was VERY hungry.  You would think that he had not eaten in months instead of just a couple of hours.  As a result of his hunger, he was whiny and crying a bit.  He said he wanted me to hold him which I gladly did.  In an effort to stop the crying I tickled him and made jokes with him.

One of my methods of distraction, which is a tip for moms handed down from my own mom, is to tell the crier that I can see a smile on their face.  For some reason, this inevitably results in a huge smile forming on the crier’s face and giggles instead of crying.

Every minute or so BusyBoy would stop laughing and begin to cry again.  As a joke I said to Mr. Right and GigglyGirl, “Watch this!  I can make BusyBoy . . .” I paused to let him think I was going to look for his smile and he began to laugh.  Then I said “CRY!  I think I can make BusyBoy cry.”  Luckily, he did not cry but started laughing hysterically.

GigglyGirl, his twin sister, decided to get in on the fun.  She said, “Here I’ll do it.”  Then she moved his new pirate ship birthday present to the floor and started to take it apart.

I asked, “GigglyGirl, what are you doing?”

She replied, “You’re not doing it right.  I can make him cry.”
