Breakfast with Santa Buckhead Style

December 8th, 2007 · 2 Comments

We went to have Breakfast with Santa this morning.  We had a fabulous time.  I am not sure who was more excited the children or me.  I was excited because we share this tradition with some dear friends of our who we have not been able to spend time with in the past year.  I was so happy to chat with our friends.  GigglyGirl was up first this morning and she had the whole day planned out.  She wanted to wake up BusyBoy to tell him her plans.  Luckily, she listened to me and refrained from waking him.

At the restaurant where we do Breakfast with Santa, the Buckhead Diner, they have many special touches for the children.  First, when you arrive, there is snow falling.  Ok, so it is fake snow!  But, this is Georgia so anything white falling from the sky is exciting to children.   BusyBoy and GigglyGirl would have probably stayed outside to play in the fake snow if they could have.

Once you go into the restaurant, Rudolph is there to greet you.  The children pick a number.  This number determines where you will be in line to see Santa.  We picked a blue ornament with the number 28 on it.  Note to self:  next year stay away from the smallish royal blue ornament and maybe we will have a better (aka lower) number.

Next you go to your table.  There is hot chocolate or coffee, juice or milk and water.  There are muffins to nibble before breakfast is served.  On the menu for breakfast, there are chocolate chocolate-chip waffles.  For the adults, there is Eggs Benedict, Parmesan Grits, and Asparagus.

Santa arrives on a fire truck.  When this happens, the entire restaurant makes a mad dash to go out the front door to greet him.  There is a crush of people and this is probably the only thing that is not so great about the breakfast.  Maybe next year, we will wait outside for Santa to arrive so we are not in that mad crush of people.

While you wait for breakfast, the children can have their face painted.  Also, as breakfast is being served, Santa goes around to each table to greet everyone individually.  This is a nice way to keep the children who are later in line to see Santa happy.

Even though our number was one of the last numbers, this was not a problem because we were able to catch up with our friends.  Once it is time to see Santa, a hostess comes to your table to get you.  The children had their turn with him and received a goody bag to take home.

On the way home, we went by Lenox Mall to see Macy’s Great Tree and then we drove by the Governor’s Mansion to see how it was decorated on the outside.

If you are a parent living in the metro Atlanta area, check out Breakfast with Santa at the Buckhead Diner next year.  You will certainly be more than satisfied with the event.
