Jenn, I did research yesterday and created a post with facts about sweet potatoes and yams. The FDA requires that the word yam be accompanied by the word sweet potato on foods in the US. Apparently, they are 2 different things and yams are mostly grown in Central and South America. These yams are not as sweet as sweet potatoes. However, sweet potatoes grown in Lousiana are called yams and they are sweeter than sweet potatoes.
